Because it’s been seen so rarely, scientists still know very little about it. But its striking features are already sparking debate about whether it should be given special protection, and some have even argued it could become an icon species for Papua New Guinea.
At a time when we so often hear about species disappearing, the return of this little shark is a reminder that nature can surprise us ... and that there’s always reason to hope.

We hope this brings a smile!

Research published this year has demonstrated that playing music helps keep dementia at bay - no matter how late in life the skill is picked up.
The basic idea behind this research is not new - we know that 'cognitive reserve' (learning new things) plays a big role in delaying mental slowdown. But the reminder that "it is never too late" is welcome ...
We hope this news brings a smile!

First up ........ I'd like to suggest you come along to these
monthly events if you can. Don explains lots of facets of day to day community events. I think you will be surprised how many hats he wears in his NZ Police position with years of knowledge in assisting and protecting all facets of the community & it's people - not just writing speeding or parking tickets, attending burglaries etc !!! He also assists with rehoming the homeless, mental health issues and a lot more.
At these monthly get togethers you're welcome to ask questions & present issues that concern you to Don & MP Greg Fleming who is there to assist also.
Piper wasn't there last time, but he often joins us too.
COFFEE WITH A COP
No speeches, no agendas - just informal conversations about what matters to the community.
Onehunga Community Constable Don Allan &
MP Greg Fleming
next session - Thursday 2 October 1 pm - Onehunga Recycling Centre, 37 Victoria St, Onehunga.
Don mentions that the traffic teams have identified several ongoing issues contributing to risk on Onehunga roads. ( see the newsletter page 3 & 4 for more information on this )
Police Response and Community Engagement
In response to these incidents, NZ Police are increasing patrols in known trouble spots, including Princes Street, Neilson Street, and Church Street. We are also working with Auckland Transport to review signal timing and signage at key intersections.
Public engagement will also play a key role. Officers are visiting local schools and businesses to deliver road safety presentations, and we’re collaborating with the Onehunga Business Association to promote safe driving campaigns.
We encourage residents to report unsafe driving and near misses via the 105 non-emergency number or online. Dash cam footage can be incredibly helpful in investigating incidents and identifying patterns of concern.
Those with some spare time, the Onehunga Community Patrol is always looking for new patrollers. I did it for a few years, based then @ Mangere Bridge when they started and it's a simple way to assist your community ( see page 15)
Stay safe
Regards
Colleen
