"Getting my garden back was like an early Christmas present"

When West Auckland Lawns & Gardening Services was asked to quote for this gardening job, my first reaction on looking at the garden area was "where do we start?"

"May" (not her real name) had been a keen gardener for many years until an injury affected May's ability to keep on top of her burgeoning property.

Over time, despite May's best efforts to maintain her pride and joy, the gardening got less, and the weeds and overgrowth got more.

Being conscious of May's restricted (yet very keen) motivation to return to gardening, and being mindful of May's nominated budget, I suggested that we prioritise areas within the property to reclaim, so as to give May a sense of attainable capacity and achievement, piece by piece, and bit by bit.

Three hours later, and we reclaimed May's central raised garden to the point that May could re-engage in her gardening passion, and begin planting once more.

When the job had been completed, May came out of her house, gazed at the now-reclaimed garden space, clapped her hands and said "This is wonderful - it's like an early Christmas present".

Months of delayed and deferred enjoyment, resolved in just three hours of vigorous garden maintenance.

The trees are next on the list :)

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
