Are you prepared to pay $5 per trip to work or school? Up to $50 per week?
The Mayor and the Government are working on introducing a charge that is supposed to reduce congestion, but will actually punish North Shore drivers and their families just trying to get to work on time. Most workers do not have the flexibility to change their working hours - to start late or work from home for an hour or two before travelling to work. And North Shore workers have less ability to avoid congestion than other parts of Auckland.
There is no guarantee that this tax will be used to improve public transport, and simply imposing another tax will not alleviate congestion. If we really want to relieve congestion in Auckland, a better option would be to make all public transport free or as close to free as possible.

This car drives super smooth and just an overall rounder for any occasion and been such a dream to have her but only reason i am selling is I’m relocating in the next few weeks. Would like to hear from people that are really keen. Thank you for reading.

While many North Shore families already keep their rubbish to a minimum, there are many other families that would struggle - in particular, large families or those who rely on the weekly collection to dispose of nappies, baby wipes, adult nappies, dog poo bags, and other waste that cannot be recycled. There is also no intention from Council of halving the rates rubbish charge if the rubbish collection is halved, but they may offer a larger bin for a higher charge! There will be consultation in October on whether there should be a 6 month trial of fortnightly rubbish collections in selected suburbs costing approx. $1million. I don't support a trial and do not support a fortnightly collection.
I believe that before a reduction in the rubbish collections is even considered, Auckland Council must first:
➡️ Introduce a street collection system for soft plastics, which make up a significant amount of general rubbish.
➡️ Replace the food scraps collection with a collection of food scraps AND garden waste, as is done in Rotorua and Christchurch.
➡️ Introduce a rates rebate or reward system for those who voluntarily reduce their household waste, exceed recycling targets or compost at home.
➡️ Work with the Government on increasing product stewardship schemes (such as the European ‘Green Dot’ scheme), where manufacturers are responsible for the packaging they produce and need to pay a recycling fee in advance. Any such scheme must include polystyrene.

Because it’s been seen so rarely, scientists still know very little about it. But its striking features are already sparking debate about whether it should be given special protection, and some have even argued it could become an icon species for Papua New Guinea.
At a time when we so often hear about species disappearing, the return of this little shark is a reminder that nature can surprise us ... and that there’s always reason to hope.

Research published this year has demonstrated that playing music helps keep dementia at bay - no matter how late in life the skill is picked up.
The basic idea behind this research is not new - we know that 'cognitive reserve' (learning new things) plays a big role in delaying mental slowdown. But the reminder that "it is never too late" is welcome ...
