"After a three-year hiatus, the popular Lantern Festival will be held in February 2023 to celebrate Chinese New Year," the list reads.
"Pasifika, the largest Pacific Island cultural festival in the world, is returning in March 2023 after a two-year pause.
"And, in July, the quadrennial FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 will swing down under."
The article also points to New Zealand's recently-reopened status, after borders were closed due to Covid-19.
"Three years' worth of flashy hotel openings await.
"From the looks of it, 2023 will – finally – give Auckland its time to shine."
It comes after a number of other recent global accolades for Tāmaki Makaurau.
Lonely Planet picked Auckland as the best city to visit in 2022 and Kingsland is officially one of the world's coolest suburbs.

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited's head of visitor economy Annie Dundas welcomed the news.
"It's fantastic to see Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland again acknowledged as a top destination to visit by a trusted international travel publication – living up to our name as a place desired by many," she said.
"We are excited to be welcoming back our international manuhiri to explore our amazing attractions, events and festivals, as well as the many new accommodation, dining spots and activities on offer throughout our region."
On top of this year's Lonely Planet listing and Kingsland's Time Out shout-out, Dundas pointed to other recent achievements.
"This adds to a list of recent awards for our region – Auckland was also recently named the Best Global Music City at the Annual Music Cities Awards, and also awarded Oceania's best destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions for the third year running at the 2022 World MICE Awards," she said.

People seem … View moreOne thing I noticed again yesterday in NW: people assume that buying a large package size is cheaper than buying a small package size. So they are buying the 5 kg bags of flour at $8 even though they are more expansive ($2.40/1.5kg) than the 1.5 kg which was on offer for $2.20 …
People seem to have trouble comparing these “not round numbers” but the calculation can be easily done in the head:
$8 for 5 kg equals
(divide by 10)
80 cents for 500 g
so for 1.5 kg = 3x 500 g
3x 80 cent = $2.40
So each 1.5 kg of the large package was 20 cent more expensive.
Or in other words: the 5 kg package cost them 67 cents more.
Might be small change for you - but it nicely adds up for NW.
NW is really good at fooling people (don’t get me started on their “price freeze” which is just an excuse to get rid of special prices) so be aware that as far as NW is concerned a larger pakcge size does not equate to a better price.

This is NOT the case. But I checked it with the Minister during the … View moreThere's been a bit of noise locally about the Water Services Bill with some people suggesting it would mean that water catchments in the Waitakere Ranges would be transferred to the new Auckland/Northland water entity.
This is NOT the case. But I checked it with the Minister during the debate today. I asked: "Following on from the question about stormwater, I have a similar one related to concern from my own area, the New Lynn electorate, which includes the entire Waitakere Ranges. A number of people in the Waitakere Ranges have expressed concern that the land there might transfer to the new water services entities and pass out of local control because it has significant water catchment dams there. They're very beautiful, very important to Auckland, near 100 percent full, but the real worry is the surrounding water catchment. So I'm asking if the Minister could please give some assurance that the land, the park—the beautiful Waitakere Ranges Park—will remain in local control under the new water services entities."
The Minister replied saying: "I want to come to the particular question of the member in relation to parks and reserves because I think the question is broader and it is one that warrants a response. The criteria for transferring stormwater infrastructure is based on whether it is predominantly used to manage stormwater, as I've said many times in this House, and whether it's critical to the stormwater system. In general, parks' predominant use is not for stormwater. Their predominant use is as a park, a public recreation place where people love to go, and therefore they will not transfer to the new entities. That's something that needs to be said very clearly. Territorial authorities will be heavily involved, as I've said previously, in identifying which infrastructure will transfer to entities. I must stress this point because it is by consent of the councils, not over and above them, because everybody preserves their quality of life through having good recreational places to take their children and the like. A park would never, therefore, be transferred out of territorial authority management if it was not the wish of the territorial authority. So, I really wanted to highlight that."

It appears from COP22 that Climate change has become a fact of life. It could be irreversible and continue for the next century.
The ratio of free oxygen in the air is 20% but the ratio of carbon dioxide has risen from 0.04% to nearly 0.1% which is what could be causing the change in climate. .
So to rebalance the planets ecosystems we need less carbon dioxide and/or more oxygen. Well, it could be the planets answer is to melt the tundra and permafrost around the poles to supply more oxygen but this will cause global warming and will surely cause the melt ice to increase the average ocean level a little.
In anticipation of this, governments everywhere should ban building within a metre or two of todays high tide sea level and plan for the evacuation of low level residents to new towns at a safe height above sea level.
Pacific Islanders particularly should not delay, as any outside assistance will be too late to avoid the flood disaster occurring but by all means play blame games to get green money from developed richer nations to clean up the damage done to their island.
