New Year Honours: North Shore's Dame Anne Salmond awarded New Zealand's highest royal honour

Caroline Williams Reporter from North Shore Times

How does one sum up a distinguished career upon being awarded New Zealand's highest royal honour?

“It’s always been this huge adventure,” Dame Anne Salmond says of her career as an anthropologist, environmentalist and multi award-winning author, unable to settle on a particular highlight.

Salmond's work has been recognised with a multitude of awards and honours.

Despite this, Salmond, a resident of Stanley Point, said she was stunned and overwhelmed to receive a letter telling her she had been named a Member of the Order of New Zealand for services to New Zealand in the 2021 New Year Honours.

Vein and Laser Group

Approximately 35% of our population suffer from varicose veins. Varicose veins can lead to leg aching, tiredness, heaviness. Often the long-term problems of swelling, itchiness, leg cramps and ulcers are not recognized as being associated with veins.

Modern-day treatment is usually non-surgical (injections or laser), and greatly improves a varicose vein sufferer’s quality of life.

Most health insurance companies cover varicose vein treatment but not cosmetic (thread vein) treatment.

At Vein & Laser Dr Elisabeth De Felice will see you for each of your appointments to ensure continuity of care.

Kenneth from Northcote Point

Maybe some of you watched the Seven Sharp program about bees "pooing" on someones windows? in Whangaparoea....is this what the world has come to? Did you know that bees are absolutely essential to pollination and keeping us alive? But some people just don't care except about there dirty windows....here's an idea....spray something on your glass to make it easier to clean....don't blame the bees OR the beekeepers.....we are all so self absorbed with our LITTLE worlds that we don't look at the big picture...dirty windows...beautiful bees...HONEY!!!!
