Teenager on 24-hour climbing marathon to raise funds for LandSAR
When Ben McDrury gets to the top of Mt Thomas he won’t be stopping to take in the panoramic views.
Instead, he will be scaling the mountain as many times as possible in 24 hours to raise money for LandSAR Oxford.
The round trip is four hours, but the 19-year-old carpentry apprentice thinks he will be able to do it more quickly, and hopes to complete the feat at least 10 times.
McDrury will take on the challenge from 6am on October 2, and has been training to ensure he is ready to hit the trails hard.

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
