Zed rock star buys historic Akaroa gem

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from The Press

Rock star turned Akaroa restaurateur Ben Campbell is planning to breathe new life into one of the best-known historic landmarks in the small Banks Peninsula town, southeast of Christchurch.

Campbell is the bass guitarist for pop rock group Zed, who topped the charts in 2000 with Renegade Fighter and later Glorafilia.

A dual resident of Akaroa and Christchurch for the past six years, Campbell has bought the Grand Hotel, the adjacent Waeckerle’s Cottage, and 1909 square metres of surrounding land, for an undisclosed sum ahead of auction.

He already owns Ma Maison restaurant in the township as well as co-owning Mandala restaurant.

Response to regifting presents

Gordon from Halswell

My mind tends to wander:
I do not see any problem with regifting it back to the person who gave it, they obviously liked it. In fact, that might work out well as you buy the present you want, then gift it to someone you know who will gift it back.
Perfect, no decision needs to be made about Xmas presents
