Tomorrow will be our last working bee for the year. We will be starting again in February. Meanwhile we have had more recent plantings stolen from the Drive. Our count is now 80 plus plants stolen. With all the hard work put in by the volunteers this can be very disheartening. Over the last week we have had a couple of serious blows resulting in debris laying all over the Reserve. When we do our working bees all pruning's and weeding are stacked in piles alongside the bollards for KVS to collect. Thank you to the casual walkers who have gathered up a fallen branch or 2 and put them into the piles. This has saved us a lot of work for tomorrow.
Remember if you think you would like to volunteer with us on every third Tuesday of the month for one and half hours from 9am, give one of us a call. Dave 021 916 158, Gaylene 027 387 4036 or myself, David 021 1221 384.

If you have been through Centennial Drive in the last month, particularly the Native block they have been there in abundance. Did you know the Tulip tree, Liriodendron tulipifera, planted by Mr A Young in 1940, is this year's New Zealand Tree Register, champion. It is located across from the fountain at the Taini Street entrance. More of our trees have now been documented on the NZ Tree Register thanks to Beau Timberland who gives his time to get our trees recognized throughout the country. This will attract Tree enthusiasts to stop off in our town to observe them.
Tomorrow from 9am to10.30am is our working bee if you would like to help out. Call David 021 1221 384, Dave 021 916 158 or Gaylene 027 387 4036.

Another good clean up

David Irwin from Matamata Centennial Drive.

This morning, we pruned, weeded, replaced bollards and cleaned the Hetana Street fountain finishing at 10.30am for a well-deserved cuppa. The red Kaponga rhododendrons are in full bloom and looking stunning. Worth a look. You can't miss them. Today's working bee.

David Irwin from Matamata Centennial Drive.

One of the projects today was an early spring clean of the Native block located between Tamihana Street and Tawa Street. Without our dedicated volunteers this work would not get done. For just 1.5 hours each month you might like to help us out. Telephone Dave on 021 916 158 or Gaylene on 027 387 … View moreOne of the projects today was an early spring clean of the Native block located between Tamihana Street and Tawa Street.
