Coming up this Saturday at 11am is the annual Goodbye Godwits event hosted by Friends of the Farm.
Bar tailed godwits are long haul champions. Every year they fly huge distances to and from their breeding grounds in Alaska. Their outward journey is in two hops via the Yellow Sea then, after breeding, they return on a direct flight from Alaska to New Zealand.
This nonstop return journey of more than 11 000km across the Pacific Ocean is the longest known flight of any migratory bird.

The afternoon will include a chance to learn more about these fascinating wader birds, see them up close, family activities and suitable for all ages.

Follow along Wellesley street to park in paddocks at the riding centre.

Suitable clothing for the weather as the coastal walkway is quite an exposed site.

Bring binoculars or telescopes if you have them, otherwise we will have some to share

Hope to see you there!
