We have recently had several calls from concerned individuals in our community “checking” as to whether we think a phone call or something they have received in the mail, is correct.

Gillian received this scratchy, with a glossy pamphlet indicating that she had won second prize of $250,000. Having personally received one, very similar, the previous month I was aware that it was a scam and advised her of such. This very same scam was shown on Fair Go a couple of weeks ago.
The old saying – “If it seems too good to be true- then it probably is” stands you in good stead when receiving such enticing “wins”.

People who have home telephone lines seem to also be a regular target regarding “problems with your internet connection” and although there has been lots of advertising and warning about such scams – people are still being caught.

We hold some good information material about how to protect yourself from scams but the need to be constantly on guard, is important.

Please contact us is you need any further information on 03 578 4272, email marlborough@cab.org.nz or pop in and see us at 25 Alfred Street, Monday to Friday between 9.30 and 4.00 pm.

Citizens Advice Invites you – to Discover Your Rights.
Helping people to know what their rights and responsibilities are and how they can act on these is the core to what the Citizens Advice is about!

“We help people from all walks of life to access the information they need so they are empowered to take the next steps and to resolve their problems”

A highlight of Awareness week is the launch of the new web site. The information about rights is grounded in the law but is practical and is expressed in a way that’s easy to understand. Please try it at our website www.cab.org.nz... or just search for Citizen's Advice Bureau.

Our volunteers have been busy upskilling in the use of this excellent resource.

We are also pleased to welcome a group of new volunteers, who are currently in training and we look forward to them being part of our TEAM.
