Slow down and follow the directions of road workers

The Team from Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast Police

Tasman District Police are asking motorists to slow down and follow the directions of road workers, with many of the district’s roads affected by the weather this past month.

“There are many areas with temporary speed restrictions and active work sites, as roading teams work to clear debris and fix damage after the stormy weather,” says Acting Inspector Chris Brooks, Tasman District Road Policing Manager. “Unfortunately, we’ve had reports of motorists not complying with those lower speed restrictions, speeding dangerously past road workers and putting people at risk.”

Acting Inspector Brooks says while Police understand the frustration caused by disruption on the roads, people need to be patient while crucial work is undertaken to restore functionality.

“We are committed to following up with anyone reported to be driving dangerously through these sites.
“Police have the utmost respect for the role our road workers play, particularly in difficult or hazardous conditions, and we hope the public can extend this respect to them also.”

With more stormy weather on the way, Acting Inspector Brooks is urging motorists to slow down, drive to the conditions, and obey any temporary signage.

“It’s not worth risking your life or the lives of others simply to shave a minute or two off your journey.”

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”

We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?

Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
