High school in lockdown
Bayfield High School in Dunedin has gone into lockdown with students being asked to stay home.
In a statement on the school’s website on Tuesday morning, it said the “school is in lock down effective immediately.”
It continued, “all students on site will be held safely. Please keep your son or daughter at home if they have not left for school yet.”
A police cordon is in place outside the school and there is a large armed police presence.
In a statement, police say they are making enquiries into a threatening email sent to the school on Tuesday morning.
Bayfield High School also went into lockdown in December 2023 after receiving an online threat.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
