Whangarei Film Society - screenings for Thursday June 27th

Geoff from Central Whangarei

Good People

PLEASE NOTE: Our screenings at Forum North will be returning to Thursday nights as from next week.

So for Thursday the 27th June, WFS will be doing a special screening to celebrate Matariki.

It is the NZ comedy/drama, Uproar, starring Rhys Darby, Minnie Driver and Julian Dennison.

This is one night only - Screenings of Uproar will be at 6pm and 8pm.

UPROAR
2024, NZ, Comedy/Drama, 105 mins,
Rated M (violence and offensive language)
Cast: Julian Dennison, Rhys Darby, Minnie Driver, James Rolleston, Erana James. Director: Hamish Bennett, Paul Middleditch

Uproar is a heart-warming tale about connection and finding your place in the world.

The year is 1981 and 17-year-old Josh Waaka lives in Dunedin. He watches on as a rugby-obsessed New Zealand is divided over the impending arrival of the South African Springboks team.

Tensions are high and there are protests taking place nationwide.

Under pressure from home and his school to conform, Josh, who has never felt like he fits in anywhere, feels inspired by the protests to find his own voice.

A sequence of events sees Josh embrace his community and his whakapapa Māori, taking him and his whānau on an unexpected journey towards healing.

Showing at Forum North, 7 Rust Ave Whangarei

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
