HEATING-UP
I was unaware of any thunderstorm warning late yesterday afternoon, but did notice thundery-looking clouds over the eastern ranges, and we did have a few spots here. It was disappointing that no real rain developed, but not surprising, as rain from that quarter is pretty rare.
It's been over a month since we had any worthwhile rain so drought conditions are settling-in, particularly with increasing temperatures. On Wednesday, Jan 17 the maximum temperature in Kapiti was 27.4 degrees and yesterday 28 degrees, both recorded in central Paraparaumu. Also, over the last two nights the temperature did not drop below 20 degrees there.

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”

Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
