My Resene Colour Your Community nomination

Circus from Kauri Coast

Circus Kumarani has been operating in Dargaville since 2003, making it one of Aotearoa's oldest community circuses! We are a charitable trust and teach circus for all ages and abilities across Te Tai Tokerau with a social arts model which develops physical, emotional and social wellbeing through fun and creative play.

Our Creative Centre/office at 15 Onslow St, in Dargaville is looking a bit old and tired and we would love to cover it with a bright and colourful paint job to make it shine like our circus super star students. We are located directly opposite the Dargaville Swimming pool which means many people will see and appreciate the upgrade!

We are often given the feedback that we 'bring colour and life' to our community and would love if our Creative Centre represented that as well as our performances/workshops do!
Our landlord is fully supportive and there are already a few murals inside and outside the building so we have the green light to turn the place into a work of art.

Kumarani focuses on providing our services to people who face barriers to participation and supports youth, rainbow communities and people with diabilities to feel safe, develop confidence and connect with each other. We also support social and civil services and grassroots neighbourhood connections through our work with Neighbourhood Support New Zealand and the Kaipara Tamariki Collective.

We run and perform at events to bring communities together in celebration. Circus includes many different skills so there is something for everyone to enjoy learning and watching.

We have plans to build a rainbow fence along the front of the property to raise LGBTQI+ awareness and inclusion (we run a support group for the Kaipara rainbow community), and install a community garden. Having paint sponsership would make this project much easier!

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
