It's New Zealand Sign Language Week
May 10th to 16th is NZ Sign Language Week. One of our Fire Risk Management Officers, Nick Linton, has put together some videos about fire safety in NZ Sign Language. Have a watch at the link below.
Did you know that NZ Sign Language (NZSL) is one of the official languages of Aotearoa New Zealand? Around 20,000 people use NZSL to communicate, so why not try a bit for yourself this week.
Also, if you know anyone who is Deaf or hard of hearing, there are special smoke alarms that use strobe lights and/or shakers to alert of a fire, and in many cases these are fully funded. For more information, contact the Timaru Fire Station on 03 684 1200.
