Evicted single mum finds new home
A Wainuiomata mother who was evicted and faced homelessness following major changes to tenancy laws has found a new house.
Nikki Prier and her son, Cole, were served notice to leave their home of seven years the day before no-cause evictions were outlawed.
At the time, Prier worried they wouldn’t find a home before May 21, the date when they had to move out. But the family had now found a home in a nearby neighbourhood, moving in over the weekend.
“It feels really nice,” Prier said. “There’s still a lot of unpacking to do, but we’ve just settled in beautifully.”
