The SPCA is appealing to the public for information after two female cats were dumped in a locked cage without food or water in Long Bay.

The tortoiseshell cats were abandoned on the side of the road on Wednesday in Long Bay Regional Park, Auckland.

An SPCA field officer rescued the animals after being alerted by a member of the public.

They are about four years old and are not micro-chipped.

Both are in good health being cared for by SPCA Auckland staff.
