Holiday accommodation shortage fears in Akaroa if 'Airbnb crackdown' passes
Akaroa will have an accommodation shortage if plans to crack down on homeowners running Airbnb-style properties in Christchurch are implemented across Banks Peninsula, locals say.
Calls are being made for the popular Canterbury holiday hotspot to be excluded from a three-tiered consenting system, which will compel those who rent out a property on a short-term basis to apply for a consent, at a cost of least $1000.
The changes are being proposed by the city council after a proliferation of homes have been listed on short-term accommodation websites in Christchurch in the past four years, causing concerns about the impact on housing supply and the loss of residential neighbours.
The motel industry has also put pressure on the council to create a level playing field.
But some argue the issues faced in Christchurch are not problems for Banks Peninsula.
Response to regifting presents
My mind tends to wander:
I do not see any problem with regifting it back to the person who gave it, they obviously liked it. In fact, that might work out well as you buy the present you want, then gift it to someone you know who will gift it back.
Perfect, no decision needs to be made about Xmas presents
