Karori kittens signal beginning of kitten season
Two weeks ago Georgina Lewis took a mother cat and her four kittens into her Karori home after they were brought into the Wellington SPCA Centre. The litter’s arrival signalled the start of kitten season for 2020. The season starts in spring and often runs until June, with a peak in summer.
Lewis, who fosters kittens, named them Aster, Rowan, Daffodil and Cosmos. SPCA chief executive Andrea Midgen said kitten season placed a massive strain on resources and staff, as kittens require high levels of care before they could be adopted, and they relied heavily on volunteers.
