My Resene Upcycling Award entry
Always wanting a tufted headboard I decided to google it and make one myself. I discovered that instead of buying expensive foam you could use in its place 3 cm thick mattress toppers.
Being the recycling enthusiast that I am - i enjoyed the challenge of religiously frequenting charity shops until I hit the jack pot TWO queen size mattress toppers!!
Once I figured out the pattern I drew it on my ply board (we had an off cut), drilled holes and then attached the mattress toppers with a spray adhesive, then covered with a thick cotton sheet I also got from charity shop.
To finish it off I used for the main fabric, a piece I had left over from a sewing project .
I attached all the self covered buttons with a needle and pocked thru the holes and stapled down, then fluffed around with the tufting and eventually got it all stapled off. this was by no means a weekend job yet well worth doing.
