Woodend misses out on Government's roading funds

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

The Woodend community has been bypassed in the Government's $5.3 billion roading announcement.

Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey, who has been spear-heading a campaign for a highway around the North Canterbury town, said it was hugely disappointing North Canterbury had been entirely missed out.

The lion's share of the money will go to the North Island, with Auckland alone set to receive $3.4b. In contrast, Canterbury will get just $159 million – all of which has been allocated either in Christchurch or further south.

Doocey has organised a rally for the bypass at Woodend's Owen Stalker Park at 12.30pm on February 9.
