Heavy rain warning and strong wind watch
MetService has issued a heavy rain warning and strong wind watch for Buller and Westland north of Otira.
Forecast: Expect a further 40 to 70mm of rain to accumulate about the ranges, and lesser amounts near the coast on top of what has already fallen. Peak rates of 15 to 25mm per hour about the ranges. Northerly winds may approach severe gale in exposed places, especially about the ranges.
State Highway 6 at Inangahua Junction - where the Buller River is high and flooding is covering the highways - is expected to remain closed until 5pm today.
