Fear of abuse sidelining refs
It's common knowledge that New Zealand is facing a shortage of referees, James Higgins said, and copping abuse was one of the main barriers. But the Thames Valley rugby ref has since celebrated 100 games, and encourages other former players to not be deterred by abuse, and pick up a whistle instead.
