Hipapatua Reserve closed for annual maintenance
Hipapatua Reserve (Reid’s Farm) is closed as maintenance and tree work begin.
The closure of the popular camping spot is an annual event to carry out any work required on top of the mowing and other maintenance done throughout the year. Signage will direct campers to the smaller, upper camping area, which will remain open. Day use of the lower reserve, as well as river access, will not be affected by the works.
Parks manager community and open spaces Julie Gordon said the reserve will reopen on October 1.
“The key reason we close and re-open later in the year is so the grass can recover from all of the vehicles that have been parking there during the summer months. Coupled with the warmer weather burning off a lot of the grass cover, we need a decent amount of time to get some coverage back,” she says.
“Once it’s back open, the area will be looking great again for the next camping season.”

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
