Odour issues at Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant

Maxine Clayton from Watercare

Part of the wastewater treatment process at our Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant involves a natural process which uses bacteria to break down solid waste in digesters.

The digesters contain a balance of different types of bacteria that live and work together but the balance has recently been upset, which is causing an increased odour.

We're working to fix the problem and help build the bacteria population back to normal levels.

We hope to see a noticeable improvement in the next few days but it will take some time for the digesters to fully recover. We apologise for the inconvenience.

You can report odour complaints through our website: www.watercare.co.nz...
