Ashley Rakahuri Rivercare Group's efforts recognised across the Tasman
A North Canterbury group has won an Australasian conservation award for raising the profile of endangered species.
The Ashley Rakahuri Rivercare Group (ARRG) was up against seven other finalists for the Australasian Wildlife Management Society (AWMS) annual award for practical wildlife management.
The group's win recognised the practical work it did to protect endemic braided river birds in the Ashley-Rakahuri River, including the wrybill, black-fronted tern, black-billed gull and the banded dotterel, all of which nest on clean shingle banks and islands in the river.
