Alternative rubbish bags
There was a letter to the editor in the Daily News recently complaining about the loss of supermarket bags. I agree they were useful as rubbish bin liners and lots else but there are alternatives without adding to the plastic problem (e.g. buying bin liners). These include newspapers wrappers, bread bags and the thin bags you probably still put your apples and oranges in when you go to the supermarket. I find the newspaper wrappers very useful and use the accompanying rubber bands to keep them sealed when I put out the rubbish. Perhaps we should ban the sale of bin liners.
