New Alcohol Control Bylaw to commence December 7

Darren Petry from Taupō District Council

A new Alcohol Control Bylaw will come into effect on Friday, December 7 with changes to the existing alcohol ban areas and the inclusion of the Otumuheke Stream bathing area in Spa Park for the first time.

Following feedback from the community and discussions with Police, the alcohol ban will now include town centre areas in Taupō between 4pm Thursday until 7am Monday and in Mangakino between 7pm Friday and 7am Sunday. These bans also apply to public holidays. Over the New Year period alcohol bans cover Taupō, Mangakino and Turangi town centres, lakefront reserve areas and Hipapatua Reserve (Reids Farm) from noon December 27 and 7am January 4 each year.

At Otumuheke Stream bathing area in Spa Park, there will be a permanent ban put in place following the improvements and beautification project completed this year.
