Update for Wairoa residents
Flooding and slips were continuing to cause problems on highways in Hawke's Bay and Manawatū early on Friday, while much of the North Island is in for a day of gale southerlies.
State Highway 2 between Napier and Wairoa was closed at Raupunga due to a slip and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
Drivers were being urged to take care on the road, as surface flooding was also an issue.
Wairoa District Council has told residents of Wairoa to conserve water, as the town's water treatment plant is unable to produce water following the recent heavy rain.
