Truck crash on Te Ohaki rd Huntly,

Allen from Huntly

Hi people on the Wedensday 20 - 06 - 2018 at 6 - 40am still dark (morning), I was travelling north and had a truck and trailer, fully loaded 44 tonnes of roading metal roll over, on Te Ohaki rd approx 300 - 500metres south of Maurea Marae. I was travelling 70 - 80kms p/hr on Te Ohaki rd from Huntly to my destination, off Glen Murray rd, and upon approaching the bend just south of Maurea Marae, and approx 2-3kms away, I noticed 2 vehicles coming towards me, the leading vehicle was a truck and trailer unit same as mine, and the 2nd vehicle was a small car or ute, all that was visible in the dark were their lights. As the truck and trailer drew closer towards me, I then recognized the unit as fellow operator, the 2nd vehicle car/ute was very close to the rear of the truck and trailer as tho preparing for overtaking manoeuvre, and in antisipating the car/ute, I removed my foot from the go pedal (accelerator), my speed at the point was 70 -80kms p/hr, as the 2 truck and trailer units drew closer towards each other, the car , at this point i could fully recognize, as a car and not ute, decided to pull out and overtake the truck and trailer, this is car coming at me HEAD ON in MY LANE, I flashed my lights, and at a guess it would have been less than 150m from where the car started the overtaking to where I was, and still guessing we were all in the speed range of 60 - 90kms p/hr, the car kept coming at me, I flashed my lights again, a this point I could outline the driver of the truck and trailer from their in cab dash light reflection, and now I was at that WTF moment, and decided to run my unit to far left off me in the water table. The very last thing I saw at approx 60 -70kms p/hr, as I manoeuvered my unit to avoid KILLING this idiot in the car, was the 3 of us abreast, 1 truck and trailer heading south towards Huntly in his rightful lane, a car heading south in my lane, while I was trying to control my loaded unit in the water table on loose gravel. I crashed.
The message here people, is the bridge at Rangariri over the Waikato river has a camera, no other human being was injured, I am still alive. cheers Allen 021783949

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
