Auckland's dirtiest restaurants revealed
The period covers July 2017 to May 2018, and those caught out include an upmarket burger parlour and a top-rated dumpling restaurant. Council staff found evidence of a pest infestation at Dominion Road's New Flavour Restaurant in May - along with unhygienic conditions and poor food handling practises. Lifestyle site Urbanlist labelled it one of the best places for dumplings last year, but the Council gave it an E food hygiene rating.
Cult favourite Velvet Burger was also caught out, being hit with a D rating. Even coffee shops didn't escape unscathed. Fred's Espresso and Soda Bar in Ponsonby was given a D rating for poor food handling practises and unhygienic conditions. Altogether, 13 outlets were given E grades and 21 were graded D.
