Front Page and inside page piece in Hauraki Herald 27 April 2018
I note that a front page and inside page piece in the latest edition of the Hauraki Herald referred to the 'Traveller's Memorial' in Waihi. This memorial is in fact 'The Tunneller's Memorial' errected with great determination, care and reverence to remember the members of the New Zealand Tunnelling Company who served on the Western Front in WWI, many of them came from the mining industry in Waihi but also from other mines around New Zealand. These tunnellers were involved in many battles on the Western Front and endured much hardship during their service in the Great War and some did not return to NZ. It would have been nice if the HH had named this memorial correctly. Thank You, D. Frost, Thames

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
