The big storm, the latest from TCDC
Powerco are working on a number of power cuts throughout the country including one in Coromandel caused by lightning strike which is also affecting surrounding areas.
State Highway 26, Paeroa to Thames, is closed until further notice due to a major fire at a nearby Mill. Please delay your journey or use an alternative route. All other roads in our district are open.
Please note if you are travelling out of the district many roads are also closed and it is advised that you avoid travelling if possible.
We have also been notified of the following school closures:

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
