CHILD ASKING FOR A LIFT FROM STRANGERS.
On Sat 18th Feb. my daughter and I (visiting) were in a quiet street in the city area of Rotorua.
As we sat on a seat chatting, a girl about 12 years came up and asked us to give her a ride home.
We asked her why she was in town and how was it she had no way of getting home. She didn't appear to have a mobile phone.
She told us that as it was the weekend, no buses were running.
We didn't give her a ride home, as my daughter thought it might be a set up.
I was worried that she would hop in with the first person to agree to a ride, and there might be unpleasant consequences.
An awkward situation- what would readers have done?
