Food Safety
While we are on the subject of whether supermarkets should label goods which have been pre frozen, I thought I would pass on my experience.
Years ago, I worked in a provincial city New World deli.
The owners were beyond careful about making every possible profit.
If the sliced cold meat selection didn't sell after about three days, staff were told to unwrap the cling film and put the fresher looking bottom slice on the top so customers would think it was freshly packed, and re label it with the current date. Some of this sliced meat was being sold when it was 10 days old.
Staff were constantly reminded about not using too much toilet paper, and were only allowed to wash their hands in cold water, no soap and one small hand towel for the whole team.
When this supermarket was sold, the owners bought another New World on the Coromandel coast.
I've always wondered how many unsuspecting customers got food poisoning from these dreadfully mean practices.
