Passing of Ian Hemingway

Amanda Neighbourly Lead from Te Kowhai

Dear neighbours,

It is with a heavy heart that I post this to let you know that one of our neighbours in Te Kowhai passed away recently.

His name is Ian Hemingway, of Horotiu Road, Te Kowhai, in the village.

Ian was a friendly, supportive, energetic (and founding!) member of Neighbourly. He's always been the first to welcome new joiners, to share recipes and tips.

Many of you will remember seeing Ian out on the Village Green over the years, flying his model airplanes.

Without Ian's support, Neighbourly in Te Kowhai wouldn't be such a rich and diverse network.

Without his contribution to our lives personally, I'd have never attempted to make mint jelly last Christmas. My kids would never have been encouraged to stop and smell the roses that grow at his front garden.

His presence online and in person in the community will be missed.

My condolences and thoughts go to his wife Barbara and their family.

Amanda

Leaving Neighbourly

Orlando from Pukete

Hey everyone, just a quick note to say I’m leaving Neighbourly. I joined because I thought it would be a good way to connect with people in the community, especially the older generation, and to receive advice, help, and shared knowledge.

Over time I’ve made quite a few posts genuinely looking for help or guidance, and unfortunately I’ve rarely received any responses. Most of the time it’s just one or two likes and no actual comments or help, which gets pretty discouraging after a while.

I understand people are busy, but when you consistently put things out there and hear almost nothing back, it starts to feel like there’s no real point in being part of the platform. Because of that, I’ve decided it’s best for me to move on.

No hard feelings — just not the right fit for me. Wishing everyone all the best.
