Coromandel Road Closures
Sandra Goudie was right to put the heat on Transport Minister Bridges about the spate of recent road closures on State Highway 25. It’s also good to see that there will be a public meeting in Coromandel to discuss the issue.
But we lack any recognition of the underlying cause of recent problems with our roading infrastructure - climate change. Thames Coromandel (plus Raglan area) has 769 km of local roads and 37 km of arterial roads at risk from climate change hazards. Hauraki/Coromandel is the third most at risk area in the country.
Climate change is not some vague issue we can put off for decades. Our District is being impacted badly now. We know the Coast road is fragile. We need to know which other roads and other Council assets are most at risk and where ratepayer spending should be best directed.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
