Dog Attack at Piwakawaka Track
Hello,
My daughter has just returned home from a taking one our small white fluffy dogs for a walk up Piwakawaka track to O'Dells reserve.
Unfortunately our dog was attacked by two dogs, as my daughter describes, German Shephard type dogs.
The dogs, who were off lead, went straight at my dog, biting, snarling, even had their jaws around my dog's chest. My dog has suffered injuries, and he is already very nervous, after being attacked previously, wears a yellow dog harness with the words "Nervous" on it, is now petrified and traumatised, as is my daughter.
The owner did nothing to prevent this, didn't come to help my daughter, as she tried desperately to stop my dog and herself from being bitten, although she was not successful. The owner, who is a heavyset, balding male, said 'they will not bite' as his dogs had my dog in their mouth. He was quite away down the track from his dogs, but made no attempt to come and help, or get control of his dogs, and prevent a potentially fatal incident.
My daughter was eventually able to pull my dog away from the other dogs, as he was on a lead, and they were even chased down the track as she ran for home, so very scary.
So please take care, if you see these dogs around the Piwakawaka track area.
If anyone knows this person, we would appreciate contact, to at least help with the potential vet bills. Thankfully, I am a Veterinary nurse, so will be keeping a very close eye on my dog.
I will be reporting this attack to the council, as the dogs should be muzzled in public, and never let off leash.
