Goodbye orange rubbish bags - hello bins
A completely new rubbish collection system is on its way, but don't get rid of your wheelie bins just yet.
Auckland Council has confirmed a three-bin model – for refuse, recycling and food waste – and a partial fortnightly collection service was planned to be introduced by 2020.
West Aucklanders will phase out the orange bags, and use the old blue bin with a yellow lid for rubbish. This will be a pay as you throw system, which will cost not more than the price of three rubbish bags, Auckland Council says.
The bags cost about $2.30 each.
The plan is for all of Auckland to go pay as you throw for rubbish, with free weekly food waste collection and free fortnightly recycling pickup.

Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
