Mountain Bikers to enjoy Wild at Heart

The official opening of the Upswing mountain bike track will be held at Makara Peak this Saturday.

The track is connected by the 72 metre swing bridge 'Wild at Heart' that was completed in December with an estimated 2000 volunteer hours.

Makara Park Mountain Bike Supporters also raised more than $100,000 from community groups and individual donors via a Givealittle page.

Spokesman for the Makara Peak Mountain Bike Supporters Simon O'Brien said the bridge and new track provides a "far more enjoyable, accessible, and achievable option" for getting to the top rather than an unforgiving ride up the 4WD drive 'snake charmer' track or a longer loop through a nearby valley.

The bridge was opened in December but the track connecting it has now been completed so people can take full advantage of the new swing bridge.

FREE 10-liter emergency water bottles

Merry Christmas -

I have around twenty, empty 10-liter distilled water bottles to serve as emergency water storage. I saved them for my friends, but they already have their own water supplies. Take as many as you like. Please respond to this notice if you are interested.
