Farmarama returns to Lawrence
One of the region's biggest field days hits Lawrence today and tomorrow, in the shape of the biannual Farmarama.
This, the 13th event organised by Lawrence Lions Club, was expected to bring one of the widest varieties of agricultural and rural vendors to South Otago's doorstep in its history, organiser David Robertson said.
"It's a real hands-on day out for all farmers and contractors."
"We keep it simple. We're not an A & P show, so there's no entertainment, just farm-related products and services, and refreshments for our visitors."
More than 200 vendors would be represented across 90-plus sites, with business starting today from 11.30am, and from 9am to 5pm tomorrow. Entry is $10, with school-age children free.
Proceeds from the event would go to a range of local and regional good causes, Robertson said.
"Typically we raise about $30,000 or so, and some of that goes to community groups who help directly with the day, some to non-profit groups giving the widest benefit to the community. Our major sponsor is Southfuels, and we couldn't do it without them.
