Items for Kaikoura after Earthquake
Hi all, Raewyn (New Brighton Lead).
I know everywhere is taking items to go to Kaikoura but here in New Brighton we are also donating so if any of you know someone that is not on Facebook - please send this to them. Below is a list of things that will be going to Kaikoura - there are around 7 helicopters going tomorrow:-
Eastsiders - remember back in February 2011 when the people of New Zealand humbled us with their support, kindness and love? Well, now it's time to pay that kindness forward.
In conjunction with the response by Miss Lilly's in Rangiora, there are helicopters heading north for the next couple of days and we want to fill them with goodness.
WHAT WE NEED:
FOOD. Baking, canned good, non-perishable food supplies, pet food. Please LABEL any baked goods with ingredients to help us cater for people with food allergies (or if you are specifically baking for a particular allergy, please label your goods).
PET FOOD: animals are important too. cat food and dog food please. Also budgies, rabbits - you name it!
TEA/COFFEE/COCOA: anything that will help here including sugar, UHT milk or powder, etc
NAPPIES: Any kind of nappies would be appreciated
SANITARY ITEMS: Ladies, the women up north are going to get a bit desperate, so pads, tampons, and the like will be gratefully appreciated. Also, HAND SANITISER if we can get it...we ALL know how important that stuff is!!!
WHERE TO TAKE IT:
There will be a number of drop off points for you:
**BIN INN New Brighton: you can drop off there between 9-5pm today and tomorrow (Tuesday 15th, Wednesday 16th)
**THE COFFEE GUY: The gorgeous Charlotte has offered her place for drop offs after 3pm and she will deliver directly to Rangiora for us. 16a Sinclair Street today after 3pm please :)
**THE WHALE POOL Park: Yes, the container BBQ in the square between New Brighton Library and the Whale Pool - you can drop off there tomorrow (Wednesday) from 8.00 -9.00am and 2-3.30pm
**THE BRIDGE COMMUNITY CENTRE: thankyou to Te Waka Aroha South Brighton, you can drop off to the new Comnunity Centre cnr Bridge St and Estuary Road Wednesday from 9-10 and again from 5-6pm.
**TIKI KIWI DESIGNS: yes, you can also drop off to my studio at 22a Medina Crescent in Parklands - just pop round, and if I am not here, drop at the back door xx

Update to Neighbourly members on data breach 06/01/2025 8am
Yesterday in the High Court at Auckland, Neighbourly was successful in being granted an injunction against any unauthorised use of the data taken in a recent breach.
As we alerted you on January 1 and confirmed on January 3, our systems were accessed illegally and members’ information, including names, email addresses, GPS coordinates from the address you provided to us, forum posts and direct member communications were among the data that was accessed.
We acted immediately upon hearing of a potential breach: we temporarily disabled the site, notified members and authorities and worked with our external security consultants to understand if and how it had occurred. We then confirmed the breach with members, safely restored the site to service and began the process of seeking the injunction. Yesterday’s decision by Justice Johnstone prohibits the use of the data by any unauthorised person, and requires them to permanently delete it, or any information obtained from it.
This does not mean that vigilance against scammers is not still required: there is a large industry globally that seeks to use stolen information for identity fraud or to dupe people into providing details of their financial affairs for theft. Again, to keep yourself safe from scammers it is critical that you:
- Don’t click links in emails. Instead, type the web address directly into your browser. This helps ensure you’re visiting a real site, not a fake one
- Enable two-factor authentication where available as this adds an extra layer of security to your data
- Stay alert for phishing emails. Be cautious of unexpected emails asking for personal information, especially ones that create a sense of urgency.
Again, we want to apologise to you for this illegal access to the Neighbourly database and to assure you that we have carefully worked through how this occurred. We have safely secured the site and its services for use and ensured we have robust processes in place so this cannot happen again.
We are continuing to work with the relevant authorities, including the National Cyber Security Centre, on any further steps we need to take.
