The Wellington Operational Support unit is the oldest fire support unit in New Zealand, founded in 1899. Originally set up as the "Wellington Volunteer Fire Police", it was renamed in 1995. Wellington Operational Support provide dedicated technical, salvage and logistical support at emergency incidents. As a specialist support unit we compliment front-line firefighters to achieve successful operational outcomes. You will see us take part in community events and fire safety promotions throughout the region. All members are volunteers and get no payment for expenses incurred in undertaking their duties either during an emergency nor at regular weekly training. The unit comprises of of men and women from all walks of life who are willing to respond around the clock, when available, to assist and work with other fire brigades in Wellington. The unit serves the greater Wellington area, from the eastern suburbs through to Plimmerton in the north
