Community Patrols are voluntary groups of people who give a minimum of 4 hours of their time per month to help deter and prevent crime in their own community.  These hours can be done day or night 7 days per week. They help the Police make the local neighbourhood safer for everyone by acting as their "eyes and ears". 

Mount Albert Community Patrol is a volunteer organisation.  Origininally started under the auspices of the Mt Albert Residents Association it is now its own Incorporated Society.  It is based at 869 New North Road, a space it shares with Neighbourhood Support. Volunteers work in pairs and small teams to patrol Mt Albert either on foot or in a vehicle during the day, or at night in the patrol vehicle.

The Mount Albert Community Patrol is part of Community Patrols of New Zealand (CPNZ), a national organisation that supports approximately 117 patrols with 5000 members. Launched in February, 2011, the patrol works with the police, rather than for the police, “sharing intelligence” and acting as a general deterrent for any would-be troublemakers. 

In 2013 evidence provided by the Mount Albert Community Patrol from patrollers observing a liquor licence applicant's existing store in the Mt Albert shops closing after the curfew was instrumental in assisting our community to win a hearing opposing an additional liquor outlet being established by the same applicant a short distance away in Mt Albert.
