Laingholm & District Citizens Association

Community Organisation

Laingholm & District Citizens Association (LDCA) is an Incorporated Society whose purpose is to act as a non-profit body to support and promote the economic, social, cultural and environmental wellbeing and long-term benefit of the residents and ratepayers of Laingholm.

LDCA manages the Laingholm Community hall on the corner of Victory Road and Lookout Drive for the benefit of local residents and community organizations.

LDCA was formed in 1978 with the amalgamation of the Laingholm Residents and Ratepayers Association (formed possibly as early as the 1920s) and the Laingholm Central Improvement Society (formed likely just after WW2). Prior to this each organization had its own hall with the Laingholm Beach Hall (where the Western Road playground is today) being run by the Residents and Ratepayers and the Laingholm Central Hall (where the playcentre is located today) being run by the Improvement Society. The catalyst for the two groups getting together to form the LDCA was an offer by the then Waitemata City Council to make funds available for a new community hall, made on a condition that only one hall could be built to replace the two old halls.

Getting a good sized hall built on a relatively tight budget was a major achievement for the LDCA. The new hall had its first function on September 12, 1981 (the final day of the divisive Springboks tour) and was officially opened by the then Governor General Sir David Beattie. In 2013 the hall was damaged by two fires and LDCA worked hard to convince Auckland Council that it should be repaired and reinstated. The repairs were completed and the hall, under the management of LDCA, now has many hirers - both regular and occasional, from the local area and from further away.

The hall is regularly used by The Roundabout (the logest running local community newspaper), the Laingholm Community Resilience Group and various other community groups and initiatives.
