Heartbeats is a community-based, peer-peer heart education and cardiac support group for heart event survivors, family and whanau Our vision is to share personal experience and knowledge with others who are on the same journey , help heart event survivors lead better lives and reduce heart mortality rates through fostering broad community education. Heartbeats is NOT a psychological counselling service, an exercise-based rehabilitation group or a social club. It provides referrals to medical and other professional services at a local level. Heartbeats does not require subscription membership, formal registration or any commitment. It is entirely non-profit and participation is voluntary. Heartbeats have regular, monthly meetings at Community Centres in Orewa, Takapuna and West Auckland and is supported by the Heart Foundation NZ, the Waitemata DHB Cardiac Rehabilitation Group as well as local medical specialists. Heartbeats meetings include guest speakers on heart matters i.e. doctors, cardiologists, physiotherapists, dietitians, pharmacists etc. It is all about education.
