The Friends of Taputeranga Marine Reserve is a charitable trust helping the Department of Conservation to promote, protect and provide information about the reserve. We work with scientists, teachers, councils and others to find out more about the marine ecology of the reserve and pass this information to you via our website and social media. Taputeranga Marine Reserve (TMR) was created in August 2008. The reserve is 854 hectares of easily accessible marine habitat on Wellington’s doorstep.

How can I help?

  • Trustees: We are seeking a couple of Trust board members. No specific marine science or other qualification is required, other than a desire to help protect our marine environment. Enjoying diving, snorkeling, kayaking, or just having a general understanding the marine environment would be of assistance, but we mainly need your ideas and willingness to pitch in and contribute at monthly board meetings.
  • Become a ‘Friend’ of TMR: Receive newsletters, participate in our annual coastal clean-up activity. If you are a regular coastal walker, diver, kayaker or neighbour along the South Coast, be our eyes and ears to protect our marine life as part of our Community Coastwatch programme. Report poaching within the reserve to the DOC Hotline: 0800362468. We are always looking for help with projects and events. Contact us through Facebook or our website; taputeranga.org.nz
