Emergency Service We are the rural "arm" of Fire and Emergency New Zealand for the Wairarapa/ Tararua District encompassing Norsewood, Te Uri, east to Herbertville and all the inland towns and villages and coastal areas down to Cape Palliser at the southern most point, across to Ocean Beach and the top of the Tararua Ranges on the western boundary. Within this area we manage the fire weather conditions, risk and reduction of any fires, issue fire permits and educate the communities and visitors about safe and appropriate use of fire. The 13 Voluntary Rural Fire Forces throughout the District generously donate their time, skill and resources to ensure people and property are protected and respond to not only fire incidents but also medical assists, motor vehicle accidents, civil defence emergencies and supporting local community events.
