Asthma New Zealand Inc. is a not profit organisation work to improve the quality of life for people with asthma & other respiratory disease. We work closely with schools, community, medical centres, rest homes, Marae and others with first-hand knowledge of community needs, providing free Asthma & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) education & support. On average. 80 people die from asthma each year. The cost of asthma to the nation is over $858 million per year. 15% over 45 New Zealanders have COPD. Most cases are linked to smoking. Our mission is every New Zealander with Asthma & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) correctly educated, with the knowledge & support to manage their condition effectively. Our mission is to reduce Asthma/COPD related hospital admissions by 50% in 10 years’ time. People with respiratory diseases who receive supported self-management education are less likely to attend emergency or be admitted to hospital.
